The cadastral survey for the Bathpalathang domestic airport in Bumthang, which was completed last week, identified 118.47 acres of land. Despite its cautious approach not to encroach into private land, about 3.99 acres of private land, affecting some 10 households, was unavoidably included. While 3.80 acres was fallow government land, a major portion, about 110.67 acres belonged to the brown Swiss cattle breeding farm under the livestock department.

He's probably the best-known non-human resident of Chapel Hill. So it may come as some surprise to learn that he's one of a dying breed. The current Rameses, like all his 17 predecessors, is a breed of sheep known as the Dorset Horn. And the population of Dorset Horns, according to the Pittsboro-based American Livestoc

Eleven-year-old Jacob Bedell had to work to keep his hog, Bacon, away from the gates Saturday morning during the Market Barrow Show at the Oklahoma Youth Expo. Bacon tried to walk out of the main arena as Jacob was showing him in front of the judges. But Jacob had anticipated that. He spent the last week practicing walking in a ring setting with Bacon at a barn north of Yukon.

Instead, she and seven other students from Florida International University cleaned barns, shoveled hay and fed rescued cows on a 175-acre farm in upstate New York. They are among the growing ranks of college students who volunteer during their time off in the spring, a trend called alternative spring break. Aguero, 18, who grew up in Weston, said the chores at Farm Sanctuary, which

Local caretakers are continuing to treat 17 of the 18 thoroughbred horses removed from allegedly inhumane conditions at Green River Stables earlier this month. A 7-month-old filly had to be euthanized because of poor nutrition and damaged growth plates that were causing deformations in the animal's legs, said Monica Freeman, superintendent of Vanderburgh County Animal Care & Control. The horses were seized by Vanderburgh County sheriff's deputies March 9 at 2400 S. Green River Road. Steven Lee Duncan,

In normal times, David Hackenberg would begin trucking his 20 million honeybees from the almond orchards of California to the orange groves of Florida about now. Instead, after a month working the almond blossoms on the West Coast, his exhausted pollinators will get some rest and relaxation in the Georgia woods before the East Coast apple blossoms summon them to work once more next month. These are not normal times for bees, or for commercial beekeepers, so Mr. Hackenberg's pollinators will skip the c
